What would you do if you won Powerball?

What do you mean you won’t spend ALL of the money on treats and toys? But Aunt Court! Please?

I’m sure you’ve heard by now, the Powerball jackpot is up to $1.3 billion or something ridiculous like that. I can’t even fathom that much money. Can you?

There have been so many posts over the last few days of people “convinced” they’re going to win the money, memes about not going to work anymore, and photos of Powerball tickets. I’ve even seen promotions by car dealerships!

I haven’t gotten my ticket for Wednesday’s drawing yet but I probably will. The odds are seriously against all of us, but why not. If these things can happen why not Powerball winning too?

$1,300,000,000. I think it works out to be a one time payment of about $808,000,000 after taxes. What would you do with that kind of money?

I’ve always said the first thing I’d do is get an accountant and a lawyer. After that I’d probably set up a charitable foundation so there was a defined process in place for people or groups to ask for money.  I’m sure I’d do things like pay off the mortgage, buy a new(er) car(s), and maybe look into building a green energy efficient house. Something nice for my parents and money in trust for my nephews and niece. I’d eventually quit my job, etc but I don’t have any really grand plans or dreams for it. Not like the guy who was going to spend it on hookers and blow.

I might ask if this guy could make me a gluten free gold doughnut though…and clone Brodsmontana.

What would you do?

About Court

I spend a lot of time on the pool deck and making treats in my kitchen amongst other things.

  1. Sue says:

In no particular order: Replace my car, pay off my debt, rent a larger apartment, get Joe a friend and hire a cat-nanny, set up a charitable fund (stealing that wonderful idea from you), set my Uncle and his girlfriend up in a new house, set my dad up in a new place, hire whoever they need for personal, health, property care, and hire that lawyer and accountant.
