Although it seems sometimes like we’re living in Kosovo* right now because everything is in disarray and most of our belongings are in the garage or in Troy still for now, there are a few things I’m loving about our house.
(And I’m talking about more than not sharing walls, hearing people have sex, having pot smoke wafting up through the floors, and while repairs are ours to make, we can make them as we see fit, not as a distant landlord sees fit to make them.)
So! What I’m loving currently.
- A grill and a deck to sit on. I’ve had a mini party back there and we’ve cooked out there half a dozen times already. It’s just so much easier. It’s also wicked nice to come home, crack open a hard cider or glass of wine, put my feet up and listen to the birds
- Wind chimes and the way the rain sounds. All I need is some acorns thumping above me and I’m right back at the lake as a kid hanging out with my cousins and Nanny. They’re also a great addition to the sound of the birds when I’m sitting in the quiet after work.
- Having my own laundry. Not only do things get super dirty when you’re tearing out carpeting and scraping/sanding walls for painting prep, but before if I forgot to wash something, I had to wait a whole week to get it in to the washer. Now I only have to wait for enough clothes/towels/laundry to put it in the next wash…and added bonus! I don’t have to share space with the laundromat people!
I’m sure I’ll find more delightful things about my house as we make it our home, but that’s what I’ve got for you now.
What do you love most about your house/home/apt?
*Okay, so the Kosovo comparison is a bit of a hyperbole. We have running water, cable, internet and other amenities, but we’re basically camping in the downstairs until the floors are done in a couple of weeks. I’m whining. I know. I’m a lucky lucky duck to have a house to make a home.
