Four years ago today I anxiously waited for a train to get in from Chicago. It had a guy I’d been talking to for awhile on it. I knew two things – I was excited to meet him and I liked him quite a bit. I wasn’t sure he was really going to show until I saw him step onto the platform but there he was.
I didn’t know what that visit would bring, we were two blogging friends with a lot of miles between us and at seemingly very different points in our lives. It quickly became clear that there was something there. Something really nice, comfortable and exciting.
I introduced him to Mild Wally’s pizza and garlic knots, took him to Bombers, and introduced him to D’Lovely and C that weekend over brunch. The weekend wasn’t long enough and I’m pretty sure I cried when he left. It wasn’t until I got home that I found a note on the bathroom mirror that simply said, “I WILL be back.”
There would be many trips back and forth, heated debates and even tears while we figured out how to make it work and where we’d end up. There were countless hours on the phone, and thousands of text messages. We shared laughs, loving moments and unwavering love and support through each thing we faced together and we stuck it out.
A lot has changed in 4 years but a few things haven’t – I still really Like that guy I waited for at the station. I look forward to seeing him everyday. He makes me laugh, we text each other constantly, and at the end of the day there’s unwavering love and support no matter what.
I would be remiss if I didn’t say how thankful I am that this blogger from Detroit/Chicago came into my life and every day we’ve had together since. I can only hope for many many more.
