I’ve been really thinking about this Doing Things Differently, because I want to make a few changes and my stuff back together. When I was mindlessly greeting 1200 attendees last week or during the few moments of quiet time i managed, I really put some thought into what I wanted my life to look like and what I wanted to change.
I weighed my options and scratched out some notes to myself.
I realized that I still wanted much of what I wanted in the beginning of the year. I’ve been doing well with my kindness and positivity over all, but not as well with organization, learning, and leanness.
Sure we’re coming up on the end of the year, but it’s never too late (or early for next year) for changes things in your/my life. Each day is a new day for opportunity, right?
The three main things I’d really like to do differently would have to be summed up as follows:
- Get my time back under control. By moving back to a fairly tight (but flexible) schedule, I actually get more done. I’ve blocked out a tentative evening schedule of stuff I want to get done each week. (See photo) I won’t go as far as setting alarms, but will try to be more mindful of my time spent doing things. You’ll see that blogging is moved to at night and on weekends so that I can better manage my break time during the day. I’ve already started this and it’s been going well this week.
- Get my butt back in gear and set a workout schedule. I have to be honest with myself (and you) and say that trying to run and swim in the same day just doesn’t work for me. It’s too stressful to try and get to the gym in time to do both. I’m changing that and on days I’m at the pool, I don’t have to worry about running. I’ll put some time in the pool instead with a min of 500 yards but aiming for 1000. It’s not a lot, but added to an hour or more of teaching in the pool, it adds up. I also want to add yoga in in the morning. (Doing this means getting to sleep at a more decent hour also.)
- Write a postcard or letter a day. This shouldn’t be hard. It takes five minutes and I can do it on my lunch break or before bed. I’m also taking a few minutes a day to (re)learn Spanish with Duolingo (both on web and on my phone). So far I’m on Basic, lesson 2 or something
There are some small things that go along with this like drinking more water and making sure I fuel my body right, crafting to send postcards and presents, but this is a good start. I don’t think I’m taking on too much.

(It took me over like two and a half hours to write this because I had to keep updating twitter and watching the game. Yay Red Sox!)
