Did you know my brother is Captain America and he’s off saving the world? Or that my sister is a talented artist who spent her summer using her talent to help mentally disabled adults and children at a summer camp? Her plans are to go to school for counseling to be an art therapist.
My siblings are and will hopefully continue to impact the world in big, beautiful ways.
Then there’s me. I struggle sometimes with how I’m positively impacting the world. I’m not on the path I thought I would be way back when, but I try to do good things for this world. It’s important to me that I leave others with more than they give me, to put more positive out to the world than negative. But what is my specific skill? Shrug.
There is something I’m good at though. I can usually bring people together for events, parties, and fundraising. Why do I tell you this?
Last night I received a message from my bro about a 5k that Mohawk Battalion is hosting for Wounded Warriors, specifically to honor RPI alumni 1LT Jonathon Kim Kohl. As you know, my bro is currently in Afghanistan so he cannot come home to participate in this event. He has asked that Frank and I do so and that we invite as many people as we can to run or walk in his absence.
Wounded Warriors Project a nonprofit organization whose mission is to honor and empower wounded warriors. Thousands of wounded warriors and caregivers receive support each year through WWP programs and services designed to nurture the mind and body, and encourage economic empowerment and engagement. (From the event site.)
I’m reaching out to you, to help, if you can. I’m asking you to join us for this 5k. If you’re not a runner, that’s okay, Daddy-O has already decided that he’s walking it and I know that others that I’ve invited may also.
If you’re local, reading this, and want to participate, here is the link for the event with registration information. (Registration opens 8/23)
If you’re not local, reading this, and would like to donate, I have an email in to the race organizers as to the best way to do so, but I know you can donate to the WWP directly here.
People who sign up because of me or forward me a confirmation email of donation (bakinginmybathingsuit(at)gmail(dot)com) will get a tasty treat from my kitchen.
