Friday Five – Little Blogging B*tchfest

I read a lot of blogs. I’ve read a lot of blogs for many years. Through the years, I’ve found a tremendous amount of posts to share, posts that I’ve found helpful for many reasons, and made new friends. I love blogging, I love reading blogs, I really love meeting new people and seeing things through their eyes. Today though? I have some things I need to get off my chest about blogging.

You’ll note I’m not even talking about crappy design, music playing when you get there or seriously long load times. These are things that bother me on a regular basis.

Ready?

  1. Blogs that are entirely made up of video posts. (Specifically if you used to write and now you don’t.) This is a newer issue I’ve run into. See, I like to read blogs not listen to them. If I want to listen to something, I’ll find a pod cast or something.  Reading is quiet, I can think about the words as I see them and I can copy and paste important parts into things I’m thinking about. (Cited of course!) Just because video can be used doesn’t mean it always should be used.
  2. Blogs that use lots of colored fonts and are entirely centered on the screen. Centered posts are fine for poetry, free writing posts, or for sections to quote something. It’s really distracting entire posts written like that. One thing I’m loving about Feedly is that it strips away most formatting and leaves you with easily readable words.  If I click through to comment though and it’s all centered? Ooohfa.
  3. Blogspot blogs that don’t want to play nice with my WordPress blog for comments.  My disdain for CAPTCHA aside, this is just annoying and if it takes more than two tries to leave a comment? I’m out of there – apparently you don’t want my comment that badly anyhow.
  4. Bloggers who don’t allow full post feed reading. Bigger bloggers who do this have gotten much better about drawing me in, but most? As soon as you switch to that or if I’ve just followed you and that’s how it comes into my reader? That’s the single fastest way to get back out of my reader. I don’t have time to click through to every single blog that I read every day.
  5. Bloggers who pitch/shill products and most of the post is a press release. I can read that on a product’s website. I want to know what you really think about it, not what the marketing department wants you to say. Bloggers who used to write actual posts and now ONLY post reviews or ads? I’m out. In a similar vein, if you have sponsors for your blog and you write an intro for them – if it’s the same intro you wrote for 3 other bloggers this month? We pick up on that and you lose blogging points.

Okay. I feel better, but I still find the above incredibly irritating. How about you? What do you dislike about blogging.

I only read a handful these days and only because I know the people blogging. Constant God posts drive me nuts. I’m a Christian and I love God – but one can only take so much blatthering. God is good, but he is not going to help you get a job unless you start applying, God is good but he is not going to replenish that bank account, God is great but he certainly isn’t going to feed your kids. Got me ?

  2. I’m with you on most of these!

    Yes to ALL of these.
