Dear Google Reader,
I’m sorry that the powers that be are no longer interested in supporting you in our relationship. It’s been a great many years that we’ve been together and you’ve seen me through blog reading, adding, unsubscribing, sending friends great posts and emailing myself recipes and other inspirations. I am grateful for our time together and will miss you.
As you might know, Google Reader will be no more as of July 1. For those of you who don’t know, that’s 6 days from today. Do you have a new reader yet? I know some people are just going to skip the reader all together and just go visit the sites. That’s not really an option for me because I follow about 250ish blogs/sites. I don’t read them all every day, but I’ve found that I like them for one reason or another and they all give me good ideas or laughs.
But what are my options? There are a few replacements, Feeldy, The Old Reader, and Bloglovin’ are the ones that have been in the running for me personally. They all have their pros and cons and I’m still trying to figure out which I’ll go with in the end.
Feedly is in the front at the moment but The Old Reader is a close second. I don’t like how either of share via email and I haven’t found a way to change it yet other than copy and pasting into an Gmail directly.
All three make it pretty easy to add new blogs that you want to follow. I know a lot of people are liking Bloglovin’ a lot so here’s the button to follow me there. Otherwise, you can still use the RSS feed follow button on the side or many readers will just let you put the url for the blog in the “add content” or “add to reader” feature on your blog.
I will say that the Feedly ap for my good old SamGal2 (Android) is pretty cool. I haven’t checked out the others to see if they have aps yet, I’m okay with this one.
I have a feeling that I’ll just stick it out on Feedly. It was easy to upload my current reader, I log in with my Gmail account and it’s connected to my Twitter now. Let’s be honest, sometimes I get lazy and this is likely one of those times where this will be good enough.
No need to go nuts, right? Which are you going with?
