Guest Post – Why I go to the gym

So you know Sue? You should. She’s fun. She’s kind. She’s sparky. And she’s super fun to shop with at Marshalls. Today she’s telling us why she goes to the gym…and I love her reasons.

Why I go to the gym:

I try to go to the gym three times a week. Some people think it’s because I want to lose weight; others think it’s because I want to get healthy.

The truth is both of those statements are true. How true sort of depends on the day. I always want to weigh less and be healthier, but I’m not always working towards those goals.

Yet I always squeeze in a couple gym visits each week. Why? I’ll tell you.

~ I pay whether I go or not. Each month my gym deducts my monthly fee from a credit card. To cancel, I have to go to the gym. As long as I’m there, I might as well get in a little cardio. It’s a vicious circle.

~ Oreos. I love them. But I can’t very well eat them guilt-free unless I can at least try and work off the calories.

~ Gas is expensive. One of the cheapest gas stations near my house is next door to the gym. If I don’t visit, I have no reason to go over that way.

~ Sushi. My favorite sushi place is on my way home from the gym. If I call just before leaving, the timing is perfect to pick it up for dinner.

~ Sometimes I just want to get out of the house. But if I go to the gym, I can get out and still watch TV. The TVs are nicer at the gym, too.

~ Foursquare points. I’m leading in points because I have checked in at the gym so many weeks in a row. If I stop going now, my streak will end.

Don’t judge. Motivation and success mean different things to different people.

So, I think this begs the question…What motivates you?

    It’s purely that I am feeling better…. But, my motivation to get there?
    My gym is within my work…. I have to be there 5 days a week… I’m always there early ANYWAY…. I might as well do something other than sit on my bum, and stalk blogs..

    Chocolate motivates me ! Hang a snickers bar at the front of the treadmill and I’ll run my ass off for it

    I wanna get healthier as well. I’m not much of a gym goer. I prefer to be outside 🙂
