I’m feeling a little under the something which is a departure from my typically happy, bright, and sunshiny self. I’m sure this will pass, but before it does, I thought I’d share a little of the mental snark that’s running around in that place I call a brain.
As one who participates in the blogging community, I read a lot of blogs. I’ve been around the community for almost 10 years now and I’ve read what a former friend would refer to as a “shit ton” of them. (I’ve never figured out what that meant, other than a whole lot of poop, but I digress.)
Sometimes things just get under my skin about the whole thing. Yes, I understand that I continue to be part of it because I like it, but just like Criminal Minds and Bones (favorite TV shows that I LOVE) I don’t have to love everything about it.
- Buzz words or phases. Just like “organically” (It’s a blogging buzz word to describe coming about naturally, usage includes “grow one’s audience organically”, “she writes organically” etc. I’m just thrilled it’s gone.) the word “authentically” and phrase “authentic self” needs to go away before I get all stabby with and unsubscribe from the next person who uses it in a not sarcastic sort of way. The more that you tell me you’re writing “authentically“or finding your authentic self? The more I think you’re an idiot and have no idea who you are. I’m all for finding yourself and figuring out who you are after a life change or realization that you’re not who you want to be, but for hells sake, don’t call it that.
- Other words that need to go away? “Cray” (It is not a substitute for the word “crazy” it is a type of crustacean.) “Totes“ (It is not a substitute for “totally” or “total” it is a type of container to carry or store something.) I could go on, but you get the idea.
- The multi-blogger give aways. Sure they can combine their forces (Earth! Wind! Wait that’s Captain Planet, not blogging.) combine their forces and offer huge prizes, but they’re a gigantic pain in the ass. Cut it out already. They’re too troublesome to enter so I just end up following two or three of the bloggers included and is that really a good return on investment for you guys. We all know they’re just a cheap (re: flimsy) way to build readership, but what does it really mean when of the ten I followed in the last one, I’ve already unfollowed eight because their posts are just a bunch of give aways or from other bloggers?
- To those people who write clearly inflammatory posts for page hits and comments, tossing up a post about whatever the topic du jour is and taking a stance that you know people will fight about? Find a different way to get attention.
Sure it might sound like I have my undies in a bunch today, but these things have been bugging me about the blogging world for awhile now and I thought I’d share. Now it’s your turn. What do you dislike about the blogging world these days?
