When I put out my call for Reader Assigned Task/adventure/challenges I received a few suggestions right off the bat. Zip-lining, throwing message in a bottles into the ocean, running a 10k were all thrown into the mix along with some others and it was tough to choose for this month until I saw this post.
It turns out that September is National Sewing Month so the suggestion below is perfect!
Voice of Reason (ALB Edition)
Need to expand the wardrobe without busting the wallet. How about a sewing challenge! Create an item (skirt, pants, dress, whatever) to wear for work!
The added bonus is that I have a bunch of fabric from Mehmere’s house that I rescued before they could get rid of it. Skirts are easy to make, I just have to find a pattern and do it. A pattern or two should run me about $10 or so and the fabric should be free because I already have it. Zippers etc might run me a bit, but this should easily come in under the $40 limit.
Unrelated. I want something like that wall decal when we have our own space in my crafting area/room. My friend Jess over at Bubby’s Handmade Home made it. She’s ridiculously talented. (The photo is from her personal fb page.)
Back to the Task/Adventure/Challenge.
I mentioned it to my cousin and she loved the idea so I’ll be making her a skirt too.
Be forewarned, I might run with this and start sewing all the time. I used to spend a lot of time doing it with Mehmere, my mom and in costume lab in college. It’s oddly relaxing and I’ve missed it a lot.
Since Voice of Reason (ALB Edition) suggested it, she’ll be joining me on this. I can’t wait to see what she works on…I have it on good authority that it’s a Halloween Costume for the Little One!
Thank you Voice of Reason (ALB Edition) for suggesting what a fun project to kick this off. I can’t wait to work on it with you!
