Unrecognized numbers and moments of panic

I have this thing that I don’t answer my cell phone when I get calls from numbers I don’t recognize. If it’s important they’ll leave a message and if someone knows me, they know it’s better to text/email me anyway. Or you know, leave me a message and I’ll call them right back.

This has backfired on me twice. Once when my brother called because he needed me to pick up up from the police station and the other time when he was missing me and called from Iraq the first time. (Guess who felt like the worst sister ever, BOTH times? This girl.) If it’s a number I don’t recognize at 1 am or later? I answer it now.

Today I got a call from a number I didn’t know, but was a local cell phone exchange. I did what any other techie inclined nerdy and nosy girl in this day and age would do and I googled it.  (You’d be surprised how many cell numbers are listed on various websites.)

It turns out it was a professor at the college I went to. Sometimes I get calls from the alumni association, but I’ve never gotten one from a professor before. The weird part is that this professor is a public service professor who specializes in Homeland Security and Intelligence Studies. Oh, and former CIA. (I’m guessing this one , not this one although who knows?)

Yes, I too am wondering why the heck he called me.

While I’m guessing it wasn’t something I said or wrote , it was  a moment of panic as to what it could possibly be. Did I google the wrong thing and it came back to me? Did I write a paper in college that has me on some list? Did I jokingly say or text something that’s about to get me in a mess of trouble? I frantically wracked my brain for a few minutes to see if there was anything there.

After a few minutes, he didn’t leave a message, so I’m assuming it was a wrong number.

I always google numbers, and rarely have any luck if it’s a cell number. What sites do you use to track them? Can you tell me, or will that get you flagged by Homeland Security? 😉

  2. Oh I never answer numbers I don’t know either. I do wonder though, if that was a wrong number?!

  3. When I google unknown numbers I usually get its location but no name. But now i’m curious maybe it was a wrong number. If you were in trouble with the CIA they would of showed up to your house. Stay safe!
