Guest Post – Voice of Reason talks about best laid plans…

Voice of Reason is back! Let’s welcome her while she talks about best laid plans, staying on track while not being home and a bonus check in on her Couch to 5K.

If you are reading this, I’m already on my vacation / Memorial Day weekend. I am a bit nervous about it as far as food goes.

You see, I managed to do a decent job of staying on “track” when I am home. I have access to all my tools… whether it is a food scale, access to the labels on the food products, etc. When I go out (or even travel somewhere), I get a little anxious because I am out of my comfort zone. I have to “guesstimate” more on how many points something is worth. I hate “guesstimating”.  I also have to rely on my will power a little more. It’s easier to keep the trigger foods out of my house so there is more of a safety barrier.

It seems a bit silly as I am typing this out. Yet, that doesn’t seem to lessen how I feel about it.  I don’t think I am alone. Think about it… wouldn’t we all be a little better to ourselves if we stayed in our comfort zones as far as dieting & exercising is concerned?

So, I am packing my workout sneakers and some clothes. I have this plan to go walking each morning to help rack up the activity points of the day. As for the meals, I am just going to have to do my best in restaurants. This will be the harder part. I love food…. I don’t get to eat out in restaurants often due to lack of money so I like to treat myself. I have to keep in mind it is okay to treat myself once in a while during this vacation but not the whole time.

Let’s see if I can bring this plan into fruition.

Weight update: I haven’t been proud of the way that I have been keeping on track. So, last week I button down and went back to the basics (i.e. tracking, measuring, etc.) I’m proud to say that it worked. I lost a total of 2.8 pounds this past week. That brings my total of weight loss to 25 lbs.

Exercise update: I’ve been keeping on track with the Couch to 5K program. Although, I feel like I am a sweaty tomato with a body after a session (because of my face being a extreme red), I am amazed with myself and what I can do. Granted, as I posted online, I hope that the zombies do not chase me for more than 90 seconds during the apocalypse. 😉

Way to go on that Couch to 5k and the most recent weight loss! I don’t know how you do it.  I don’t think you’re alone in saying that it’s harder to stay on track while away from home. Actually, I know you’re not because I have a hard time too! Let’s not talk about the food debacle that was yesterday. Just remember that we try to be “good” more days than not. Right?

    I suck at restaurants when I’m dieting. I sit down, fully prepared to order a salad, or something from the “lite” menu – and then I crash and burn when I see all the other yummy food available to me. 😦

    There’s nothing easy about losing weight. Anyone who says there is, is selling something. Or a guy.

    Your plan to rack up activity points while you’re away is a good one. Also, just choosing one meal a day as your treat, and sticking to the plan the other meals, might help.

    You’re doing great and should be very proud of yourself. Baking Suit is right – just try to have more good days than bad. 🙂
